In business, you need reliable and efficient services.  The Bangor Region has a comprehensive infrastructure to meet your needs.  The Bangor Region Development Alliance will assist you with assembling the energy and telecommunications package that works best for your business.

Electricity

The area’s major electric utility is Bangor Hydro-Electric Company.  In addition to its residential programs, Bangor Hydro offers a number of commercial and industrial programs.

In the construction of new facilities, the company offers a negotiable multi-year contract for energy services that takes into account construction costs borne by the customer. Bangor Hydro will work one-on-one with its commercial and industrial customers to identify the best price and value for energy services provided.
Central Maine Power is the electric provider in Bucksport and Hermon.  Among its programs for businesses is the Maine Made Credit that rewards expansions with an annual credit.

Petroleum and Natural Gas

Approximately 300 companies service Maine with heating oil, gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, propane, and other petroleum products. The Bangor area hosts both small and large companies competing in the fuel business.
Natural Gas
Bangor Gas is approved by the Maine Public Utilities Commission to distribute natural gas to residential, commercial, and industrial customers in 12 Bangor area communities: Bangor, Brewer, Veazie, Orono, Old Town, Milford, Bradley, Eddington, Orrington, Bucksport, Hampden, and Hermon.
Bangor Gas receives its supplies through the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline, a 685-mile transmission pipeline system built to transport natural gas from Nova Scotia to markets in Atlantic Canada and the northeastern United States.  A network of underground piping transports more than 530 billion British Thermal Units (BTU) of energy per day from the Sable Island gas fields off Nova Scotia

Telecommunications

Maine has the first statewide ATM fiber optic based network. There are ten ATM switch locations throughout the state, giving businesses the freedom to select the most desirable location with the confidence that the best in telecommunications technology will be there.

Bangor is one of the two major telecommunication hubs in Maine and is a connecting point for much of Maine’s fiber optic lines. Maine service and reliability ratings are among the best in the country.

The Bangor area is serviced by wireless providers such as AT&T, Unicel, US Cellular, and Verizon Wireless.

Water

The Bangor Water District is a quasi-municipal utility providing public drinking water and fire protection services to the citizens of Bangor and portions of the neighboring communities of Clifton, Hermon, Eddington, Hampden, Orrington, and Veazie.
The source of supply for the Bangor Water District is Floods Pond in Otis. The pond lies 15 miles east of Bangor in a rocky, rugged area which was scoured by the retreating glaciers. The pond supplies an excellent source of water that is clear, soft and palatable year-round. The watershed is an area of about eight square miles. The estimated dependable yield of Floods Pond is about 8.0 million gallons per day.
